Some of the worldview battles being fought in North America, the "Culture Wars", have not fully arrived yet in Jamaica.  The debates about homosexual marriage, etc. will come soon enough.  But for now, we are still a culture strongly influenced by conservative Christianity.  For example, every public school takes time in their weekly schedule for "devotions."  This is a good thing, but it can also be deceiving.

Our Christian culture is not our Savior.  And moralism can just as easily become our downfall as hedonism.  Moral values can never change the heart.  The Apostle Paul was, perhaps, the most moral person in his day, but his heart still needed to be changed by the grace of Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus.  Only the gospel can take a dead heart and give it new life.  Paul reminds us in Ephesians 2 that, apart from the miracle of God's saving work in Christ, we are all dead in trespasses and sins, serving the prince of the power of the air.
